RV Resort & Family Campground · Shartlesville, PA
A big 87-acre RV resort off I-78 in Shartlesville (now branded Appalachian RV Resort, part of the Encore/Thousand Trails network), with full-hookup pull-thrus, shadier wooded back-ins, a stocked fishing pond, and tent sites, cabins, and cottages — about 50 minutes east of Hershey. You don't need a Thousand Trails membership for a regular stay.
Our take If you're towing in from the Hershey area, this is an easy run east on I-78. Since we do RV repair and hitch and trailer work too, we know how a long tow can loosen things up — if anything feels off on the rig coming or going, we're a quick stop down at I-81 Exit 80 in Grantville, about 12 minutes north of Hershey.
This is one of the larger campgrounds in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country, with hundreds of sites spread across 87 acres in the Blue Mountain foothills of northern Berks County. The RV sites run from long 50-foot super pull-thrus down to 45-foot back-ins overlooking the fishing pond and smaller 25-foot wooded sites, so you can pick between open and shady depending on your rig and how much sun you want. If you're not towing, there are tent sites, camping cabins, and cottages too.
It now operates under the Encore RV Resorts banner and is tied into the Thousand Trails network, but it still takes regular public reservations alongside membership and seasonal stays. On the recreation side you'll find a swimming pool, mini golf, a playground, a game room, sport courts, and the stocked fishing pond, plus an activities schedule with things like bingo and live entertainment during the season. Cell coverage is generally strong; the on-site Wi-Fi can get spotty when the place is full.
Full-hookup sites in a real range of shapes and sizes, so big rigs and tow-behinds both have options.
Non-RV options for folks who want to camp without a rig or rent a roof for the weekend.
Family-oriented amenities clustered around the resort grounds.
A seasonal activities program — bingo, arts and crafts, tournaments, and live entertainment are among the listed offerings.
Operates as a seasonal campground, with published dates running roughly early April through early November. A couple of aggregator listings say "year-round," so confirm current open and close dates directly with the campground before you plan a shoulder-season trip.
