Family Campground & RV Resort · Stevens, PA
An old-school, wooded hilltop campground in northern Lancaster County, family-run by the Kitch family for more than 60 years — and about 50 minutes from Hershey for a quieter basecamp.

Our take This one's our owner's genuine local pick — the most real camping of the bunch, and where his own family likes to go. It's the spot for unplugging: woods, a pool with a view, and a no-screens ethos the kids grumble about for an hour and then forget. Since we do RV repair and hitch work too, we know a 40-minute haul up the Furnace Hills can rattle things loose — so if the rig feels off coming or going, we're a quick stop down on I-81 at Exit 80, about 12 minutes north of Hershey.
Starlite sits up on the Furnace Hills near Ephrata, and it's our owner's personal favorite of the campgrounds we feature. It's the most actual-camping spot of the bunch: shaded, wooded sites tucked into the trees, plus open lots up on the "Plateau" with long views out over the valley and farmland. The Kitch family has run the place for more than 60 years, and it shows in how settled and well-kept it feels.
The motto here is "no cable, no WiFi, no golf carts — just camping," and they mean it. That's part of the appeal for us. You come up the hill, the screens go down, and the kids end up at the pool or the mini golf instead of glued to a tablet. It's tent and RV only — no cabins — so bring your rig or your tent.
From our shop in Grantville it's roughly 40 minutes east on US-322, and from Hershey figure about 50 minutes. That extra distance buys you real quiet and real woods, which is the trade a lot of campers are happy to make. The season runs roughly May through late October, so it's a spring-through-fall pick, not a year-rounder.
Private, shaded sites in the trees, plus open hilltop "Plateau" lots with sweeping valley and farmland views. Tent and RV only — no cabins or rentals.
A swimming pool with a separate kiddie pool, mini golf, and courts for the kind of weekend that runs itself.
A well-stocked store plus the practical stuff you want on a multi-night stay.
In-season weekends carry a light schedule of family activities — bingo, crafts, occasional Sunday breakfasts, live music, and seasonal events like a fall Halloween weekend.
Open seasonally — roughly May through late October, with exact open and close dates varying year to year. The campground doesn't take online reservations, so call ahead to confirm the current season, office hours, and availability before you head up.

About 50 minutes. It's up in the Furnace Hills near Ephrata in northern Lancaster County, so it's a bit of a drive from Hershey attractions — the payoff is a genuinely wooded, quieter setting. From our shop in Grantville (I-81 Exit 80) it's roughly 40 minutes east on US-322.
No — and that's on purpose. The campground's own motto is "no cable, no WiFi, no golf carts — just camping." If you need to stay connected for work, plan on your own cell data and a backup plan. If you're looking to actually unplug, this is the spot for it.
Tent and RV only — we didn't find any cabins or rental units listed, so you'll need to bring your own setup. Sites range from private wooded spots to open "Plateau" lots with valley views, with water/electric and full-hookup options. Call to confirm what fits your rig.
A good lineup for an old-school resort: a swimming pool plus a kiddie pool, a mini golf course, courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, a baseball field, a playground, a hiking trail, and an air-conditioned arcade and rec hall. There's also a stocked camp store, modern bathhouses, and laundry.
Seasonally — roughly May through late October, with exact dates set each year. They don't take online reservations, so call the office at (717) 733-9655 to confirm the current season and book a site.
Generally yes — the open Plateau sites are where the bigger rigs and fifth-wheels tend to go, with 50-amp full hookups and the best valley views. Site dimensions vary, though, so call ahead with your length and slide-out needs. And if anything feels off on the tow up or back, we do RV and hitch work just off I-81 Exit 80.
