Restaurant, Brewery & Artist Studios · Harrisburg, PA
A restored Midtown Harrisburg mill that packs a farm-to-table restaurant, an on-site brewery, a rooftop biergarten, and dozens of working artist studios under one roof.
Our take The Millworks makes an easy half-day in Harrisburg's Midtown: grab a bite, walk the studios, and if the rooftop's open, take in the city view — it pairs naturally with a stroll through the neighboring Broad Street Market. And whenever the drive home runs you down I-81, we're a quick stop at Exit 80 in Grantville, about 12 minutes north of Hershey, if your vehicle needs a look before you head out.
We send a lot of folks to The Millworks because it's the rare spot that doesn't make you choose between dinner, a good beer, and something interesting to look at. The building was the old Stokes Millwork operation, and the team kept as much of the original timber and brick as they could when the restaurant and gallery opened in 2015 — the on-site brewery and rooftop biergarten followed in 2016. So you're eating and drinking inside a piece of Harrisburg's working history. The kitchen leans into local, seasonal sourcing from Central Pennsylvania growers, the brewery pours its own house beers, and the whole place sits right next to the Broad Street Market — billed as the oldest continuously operating market house in the country — in the Midtown arts district.
What really sets it apart is the art. Dozens of regional artists keep working studios in the building — the gallery's own site lists three dozen — and there are galleries and a shop where you can buy their work, so there's always something happening beyond the plate in front of you. In warmer months the rooftop biergarten opens up with city views and a casual, order-at-the-bar setup, while the indoor dining room and galleries carry the rest of the year. It's the kind of place that rewards wandering a little before or after you eat.
As of our last check, The Millworks is generally closed Mondays, open afternoons and evenings Tuesday through Thursday, late morning to evening Friday and Saturday, and for brunch and dinner on Sundays (the kitchen closes earlier than the bar). The rooftop biergarten is seasonal and weather-dependent. Hours and rooftop availability shift with the season, so check their site or call ahead before a special trip.

It's all of it under one roof: a farm-to-table restaurant, an on-site craft brewery, a seasonal rooftop biergarten, an outdoor courtyard, art galleries, and dozens of working artist studios — set inside a restored former millwork building in Harrisburg's Midtown.
It's at 340 Verbeke St in Harrisburg's Midtown arts district, right beside the Broad Street Market. From the Hershey area it's a short drive into the city — an easy add-on if you're already headed toward downtown Harrisburg.
No. The rooftop biergarten is seasonal and weather-dependent, and it runs casually — order at the bar, first-come seating. The indoor restaurant keeps more consistent hours, so check the site or call ahead if the rooftop is the main draw for your visit.
Yes. Dozens of regional artists keep studios in the building, and there are galleries and a shop where you can see and buy their work — so there's plenty to wander past before or after a meal.
