Short answer: these are the usual problem areas
NextGen AutoWorks is located at 130 N Faith Rd, Grantville, PA 17028. We are a certified Pennsylvania State Inspection station and offer both safety and emissions inspections for drivers from Grantville, Hershey, Hummelstown, Harrisburg, Palmyra, Annville, Lebanon, Jonestown, and nearby Central PA communities.
Pennsylvania inspections are handled by official stations
That matters because a parking-lot lookover is not the same as a state inspection. You can spot obvious concerns before your appointment, but the official inspection process is what determines the result.
Common reasons a vehicle may fail a PA inspection
- Tires: Worn tread, uneven wear, visible damage, bulges, cords showing, or a tire that is not holding pressure can all create inspection concerns. Central PA potholes and seasonal temperature swings can make tire problems show up faster. If a tire has sidewall damage, severe tread damage, visible cords, bulges, or uncertain repair history, have it inspected by a tire professional.
- Brakes: Noises, vibration while braking, a low pedal feel, warning lights, worn pads or shoes, rotor concerns, brake fluid issues, line concerns, caliper problems, and ABS-related faults are all reasons to have the brake system checked properly.
- Lights and electrical items: Burned-out exterior lights, intermittent lighting, damaged lenses, or electrical faults can create inspection problems. Sometimes it is a simple bulb concern; other times it takes electrical diagnostics to find a wiring, socket, or module issue.
- Wipers: Wiper blades that streak badly, chatter, tear, or do not clear the windshield well can be a problem. In our area, winter ice and road grime are hard on wiper blades.
- Exhaust: Excessive exhaust noise, damaged exhaust parts, leaks, or related concerns can show up during inspection. Exhaust issues are also common after winter road salt and corrosion.
- Suspension and steering: Clunks, looseness, pulling, uneven tire wear, vibration, worn components, or alignment-related tire wear can all point to issues that need attention. Potholes around Central PA are rough on wheels, tires, steering, suspension, and alignment.
Grantville and Central PA conditions make a difference
That is why a vehicle can feel mostly normal and still have an inspection-related issue hiding underneath. It is also why we recommend having concerns looked at before they turn into bigger repairs.
What you can safely check before your appointment
- Turn on the lights and look for obvious burned-out exterior bulbs.
- Check whether the wipers clear the windshield cleanly.
- Look for tires that appear very low, damaged, badly worn, or unevenly worn.
- Pay attention to brake noise, grinding, pulsation, or warning lights.
- Listen for exhaust noise that has recently gotten louder.
- Notice pulling, clunks, vibration, or a steering wheel that feels different than usual.
For tire pressure, use the pressure listed on the vehicle placard or owner’s manual, not the maximum number printed on the tire sidewall. If something looks questionable, bring it in rather than guessing.
When not to keep driving
If you are stopped somewhere unsafe, stay away from traffic and call roadside assistance or emergency services as needed.
What happens if something does not pass?
We also offer emissions inspections. We cannot tell whether a specific vehicle meets emissions requirements without testing it, but we can inspect and discuss what we find.
